I'll be preparing for the race with exended ocean swims. I've been biking nearly every day, unless I'm exhausted from a long overnight shift at Fox 11 News. Friends who haven't seen me in a while comment that I'm "looking good."

Although I love to bike and swim, the only running I enjoy is on a tennis court. Still, I've recently started adding miles on foot. Since I'm in my fifties, my knees complain on long runs, so I'm training on the beach's hard sand at low tide. My weight has dropped to 195.5, more than 35 pounds from my peak. I was slowed a bit by the pasta, sausage, cheeseburger, and pointlessly high butter fat concoction called strawberry soup that I I ate at my family's July 4th reunion.

One of the best things about competing in the Malilbu Triathlon is that the race reflects the charm and warmth of that coastal community and the proceeds are for a good cause, Children's Hospital Los Angeles. I'm competing in the race thanks to the efforts of Desiree Friedman of MESP who has my eternal gratitude.
