Point Vicente Lighthouse- photo by Carolisa Pomerantz

The ocean water has been glorious lately at the height of California summer, the perfect time to savor surf, sun and fun, .Like so many people, I earn much of my living while sitting at a desk. It's an effort sometimes to get out and exercise, although I try to do so everyday.

As a kid, I had never heard the term comfort food, but I admit to having indulged in ice cream occasionally to make me feel better. Now I try to get by with just a bit of dark chocolate.

When I think about it objectively, no pint of Ben and Jerry's has ever given me as much joy as a soothing salt water swim where I get to work every muscle of my body and relax by floating like a bird in a buoyant medium. It should be a daily summer ritual.

As August starts, I can point to two full days spent at the shore, the first at Palos Verdes, learning about the geology, history, flora and fauna of that peninsula with the Sierra Club; the second on the beach just north of Marina del Rey, watching sloops, yawls and dinghies cope with high winds and light fog as I lay on the beach sharing good conversation and companionship.

Mirrors don't lie. Neither do honest photos. Looking at this shot I see my weight loss of the last few months, but realize that I can still lose a few pounds. In this I am hardly alone. This month's Reverse Aging News features a recent study looking at obesity, a national problem that will cost us billions in wasted medical dollars. It's a vital concern as the Obama Administration presses for comprehensive health care reform.

If you find that you need to lose weight, have a friend snap a photo of you and put it on your refrigerator door. Take a look before reaching for a snack and you might choose fat free fruit before cheese. Of all of the menthods of age reversal explored in the anti-aging documentary "Reverse Aging Now", the one that consistently works the best with every species is calorie restriction.

Keep reading about my quest to reverse aging. If this 54 year old can take this important anti aging step, anybody can. Is it possible to really reverse aging?
